Kolkata: PCB fines Rameshwara Infraspace for delay in razing unauthorised structures

KOLKATA: A real estate firm, which was ordered by the state pollution control board to pull down a portion of its project that impeded the flow of the Hooghly, began the demolition work on Saturday. PCB will levy a fine for delay in executing the order.

“We have been informed by Rameshwara Infraspace that the boundary wall that was constructed on the river bank and other unauthorized structures within 11 m of the high water line of the river are being demolished.
However, the demolition order was passed on August 20 and had to be complied by August 31. We shall penalize the firm for the delay,” state PCB chairman Kalyan Rudra said. The fine, Rs 23,400 for each day’s delay, amounts to Rs 3.3 lakh.

Jugal Khetawat, chairman of Rameshwara group, said they were waiting for the order from Kolkata Port Trust as the original plan had been approved by it.

“The project entails construction of 361 apartments for the middle-income group. We have sold 75 apartments and wanted to resolve the issue at the earliest,” he said.
