Kozhikode corporation felicitates pink alert team members

KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode city corporation authorities here on Monday felicitated 100 members of pink alert team, all women disaster response team of the civic body, for carrying out selfless service during the recent flood. Deputy mayor Meera Darshak inaugurated the felicitation function held at the corporation Kudumbashree hall here on Monday.




The group, first of its kind in the state was formed by the community development society of Kozhikode corporation Kudumbashree post flood in 2018, August for the safe shifting of elderly, children and women from the disaster hit areas to the temporary relief camps, hospitals and to their nearby relative’s houses.

More than hundred members of pink alert team played a pivotal role in bringing the victims of flood to the 56 relief camps opened at various locations in the corporation limits during the heavy rain. The members also collected the relief materials and distributed to the needy in various relief camps. They also worked as counselors at relief camps to help people come back to normal life. The TRUMA care has already trained the members in emergency medical relief, fire and rescue and leadership.

The civic body has earmarked a sum of Rs 2 lakh for the activities of Pink alert team in the annual plan programme for the financial year 2019-2020.

Corporation Kudumbashree project officer MV Ramsi Ismail said that the civic body is planning to increase the number of pink alert team members to 375 from the existing 100. "We have decided to take five members each from 75 wards to ensure the presence of the group in all the wards," he said.

Development standing committee chairperson Anitha Rajan presided over the function.
