Krishnanagar: Salon owner clicks selfie, hangs self

LUCKNOW: The owner of a popular salon in Aashiana reportedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his Krishnanagar home early on Thursday, within an hour of sending a selfie and purportedly declaring his death wish to an employee on WhatsApp.

Police have not found a suicide note and are investigating the veracity of the message.

They are not ruling out foul play until the postmortem report arrives.

Deceased Vikas Srivastava (42) lived with his wife and two sons, aged 13 and 10, on the first floor of a house in Ashutoshnagar that belongs to his father-in-law Surendra Kumar. Police quoted Kumar as saying his son-in-law hanged himself from a noose made out of a curtain in a room adjoining to one where his daughter and grandsons were sleeping.

Srivastava’s employee Ankit (24) told police that his boss sent him a selfie in the small hours with the message about how depressed the latter was and that he was planning suicide. Ankit said he texted back requesting Srivastava to keep patience and share problems if any.

Krishnanagar sub-inspector Pankaj Singh said they suspected suicide based on circumstantial evidence, but needed to probe further to nix other possible theories.
