Lady cop thrashes girls, probe begins

JAIPUR: An inquiry has been set up by the police regarding a video of a lady constable of the women patrolling unit in Pratapgarh beating two girls on the road.

While the youth who was with the girls has also been arrested for allegedly misbehaving with the cops, a separate investigation is also being done to look into the lady constable’s action.

The video surfaced on social media on Thursday. The incident happened when one of the lady constables found two girls and one boy at a local eatery allegedly indulging in an ‘obscene act’, claim police officials. The video shows two lady constables leading two girls while one cop is hitting them as they are walking on the road.

Anil Kumar, SP, Pratapgarh told TOI, “Two girls and the boy were behind a local restaurant and indulging in obscene acts in public. When our constable asked them to come along with her, they started misbehaving with her. That part has not been shown in the video. Following this incident, the youth ran away. We searched for him and arrested him shortly afterwards. The girls were let go.”

On being asked about the actions of the lady constable in the video, Kumar added, “We are conducting an enquiry into that matter as well. The lady constable has informed us that the youngsters misbehaved with her. However, we have counselled on in the matter and said clearly that no one should be hit in this manner. We are also probing into the matter in greater detail.”
