Lake road is Clean Street Food Hub in Kodai

Madurai: The road around the star-shaped lake, which is the main attraction of Kodaikanal, has been chosen as the ‘Clean Street Food Hub’ in the tourist town in the neighbouring Dindigul district. Tourists from various parts of the country visiting the hills do not miss the tasty corns, bajji and bread omelets available around the lake.

Food safety officials in Dindigul district said that there are around 100 registered shops around the lake and the number increases during peak season. Apart from registration, a medical fitness test has also been completed among the staff, said designed officer for food safety, Dindigul district, Dr K Natarajan.

Natarajan said that one round of awareness meeting has been conducted. Another round of sensitization will be conducted shortly. A detailed guideline is in place to identify and develop a place into ‘clean street food hub’ in order to obtain the certificate, and we are following it.

Food safety officials said that development of basic amenities has to provide by the department by tapping corporate social responsibility funds. Kodaikanal was included in the list later, officials said.
