Lakshmana displays his caste cert

Mysuru: Days after Mysuru MP Pratap Simmha questioned Congress candidate M Lakshmana as to who gave him the certificate that he is a Vokkaliga leader, the latter on Thursday displayed his caste certificate issued by the Mysuru tahsildar.

He displayed his caste certificate in front of Sri Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi Hills.

“My caste is written here. I am Vokkaliga by birth. As I grew up, I adopted poet laureate Kuvempu’s Vishwamanava concept,” he said.

“I request Simmha to stop this cheap politics in the name of caste. Is caste required in politics?” he said.

He alleged that his caste was questioned to create confusion among Vokkaliga voters. Let BJP seek votes on their development agenda and not in the name of caste, he said.

“In the 2014 elections when Simmha contested for the first time, he said he is a Vokkaliga to get the community’s support. Now what is wrong if I seek Vokkaliga votes,” he said, adding he will not change his name for the sake of votes.
