TRICHY: The special police team arrested one more person from Madurai in connection with the Lalithaa jewellery heist case during the night hours on Saturday. They have also recovered 6.10kg of gold from the house of the accused, police said.
The arrested man has been identified as C Ganesan , 35, of Kuruvithurai in Vadippatti in Madurai district . He is also one of the accomplices of Tiruvarur N Murugan , 50, of Seera Thoppu , the suspected kingpin in the heist that happened on October 2, in Trichy.
Police have also recovered 6.10 kilograms of gold worth Rs 2.30 crore near the house of Ganesan. Based on a confession by Murugan, police have arrested Ganesan, a statement from the police said.
While the special police teams from Trichy were intensifying their search operation to nab Murugan, he surrendered before the 11th additional chief metropolitan magistrate court at city civil court in Bengaluru in Karnataka, on Friday in connection with another criminal case pending with the Bengaluru police. Now he is under the custody of Bengaluru police.
Meanwhile, a higher police official said that the preliminary investigations have revealed that Murugan was also related to the Punjab National Bank robbery that took place in Bikshandarkoil in Trichy during the last year.
Since Murugan is under the custody of Bengaluru police, the special police team has decided to file a petition before the court in the State praying to grant permission to take Murugan under their custody for further interrogation, the police official said.
