Landlords must verify bona fides of tenants: R Menaka, DM, North Goa

PANAJI: North Goa district magistrate R Menaka, has asked landlords to verify credentials of tenants before letting out their premises on rent.

In an order, Menaka directed owners of residential premises, lodging and boarding facilities, including guest houses and hotels, to verify the bona fides of a person before allowing them to reside at the premises.


They need to submit the tenant/visitor/guest verification forms to the respective police station, she said.

The order came into effect from Friday and will be effective for a period of 60 days, up to December 9, 2019. Any person contravening it, will be punished under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In another order, the district magistrate, under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973, directed operators of all cyber cafes in North Goa to disallow anyone from availing services until their identity is established.

Government identity cards like voter card, driving licence, smart card, passport, Aadhaar card, are valid documents for identification.
