NDRF Recovers One Body, Two Still Trapped in Asansol Coal Mine

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team recovered body of one person among the three who got trapped in a coal mine in Asansol's Kulti area on 13 October 13. The incident occurred when 4 people tried to dig the mine illegally, of which 3 got trapped in it.

World Bank President to Visit India, Pakistan in Oct

World Bank President David Malpass said on Thursday that he would travel to India and Pakistan later this month where he will discuss the challenges in the financial sector.

"In India, I hope to discuss the challenges in the financial sector, where progress can be made and help India grow even faster than it is," Malpass said at a news conference at the start of the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank in Washington.

In India, he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top leaders.

"India is a good example of a country that's been able to grow fast by improving the system, having more flexibility within the markets of the system, and I think there's more progress that can be made there," he said.

Barnier Says Will Lead Post-Brexit UK-EU Talks

European Union negotiator Michel Barnier told AFP on Thursday that he had been asked to lead the bloc's talks with London on their future post-Brexit relationship.

Barnier said the incoming head of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, had asked him to remain in post for a year once Brexit has been ratified "and I will therefore be able to begin talks on future relations between the United Kingdom and the European Union."

Earlier, the leaders of EU member states and the current head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker had hailed Barnier's work in the three-year negotiating slog that led to the latest Brexit deal.

Turkey Agrees to Suspend Syria Offensive, Says US Vice Prez Pence

Turkey has agreed to a ceasefire in northern Syria to let Kurdish-led forces withdraw, US Vice President Mike Pence has announced. All military operations will be paused for 120 hours, and the US will help facilitate an "orderly withdrawal" of Kurdish-led troops, he said.

Assam Teacher Arrested for Sexually Harassing Class 8 Student

A teacher of a government school was arrested on Thursday in Assam's Sonitpur district on the charge of alleged sexual harassment of a girl student, police said.

The accused teacher of the school at Gutlung area was arrested after a complaint was lodged by the class VIII student, District Deputy Superintendent of Police Rashmi Rekha Sarma said.

Woman Officer in BHEL Ends Life Due to Alleged Harassment by Colleagues

A 33-year-old woman Accounts Officer of public sector Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) allegedly killed herself over 'harassment' by a top official and six other colleagues in Hyderabad, police said.

Based on a complaint from her husband, a case has been registered against the Deputy General Manager (Finance) and six other BHEL employees, who are her colleagues, for allegedly abetting the officer's suicide, they said.

Delhi Food Min Writes to Paswan Seeking Supply of More Onions Through NAFED

The Delhi government has asked the Centre to supply adequate quantity of onions to keep the price of the kitchen staple in check and claimed that the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) has not been able to keep up with the demand in the national capital.

The Food and Civil Supplies minister of Delhi, Imran Hussain, raised the demand on Thursday in his letter to Union Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan.

Body of Journalist Found in Forests of Uttarakhand

The body of a 43-year-old journalist was found in the forests of Dugadda range in Uttarakhand’s Pauri on Thursday morning, officials said.

Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) unit incharge Inspector Gabar Singh Negi said.

A bottle of pesticide and a suicide note were seized from the spot, the official said.

No Odd-Even Scheme for 2-Wheelers, Says Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the odd-even scheme will be implemented from 4 November to 15 November. The scheme will also include vehicles coming from other states, and only be implemented on non-transport 4-wheeled vehicles, 2-wheelers will be exempted.

The scheme will be applicable from 8 am to 8 pm, except on Sundays. Violating the odd-even scheme will incur a fine of Rs 4000, he added.

Sexual Harassment Case Against Ex-TERI Director to Be Heard on 6 Feb Next Year

The Sexual harassment case against ex -TERI Director RK Pachauri will be heard on 6 Feb, 2020. The prosecution was supposed to bring a witness today in court but due to Justice Manika’s leave, a next date has been fixed.

In the previous hearing, the complainant came especially from abroad to give her deposition.

22 and 23 July were fixed for complainant's deposition so that her evidence was not stalled. -On 22 July accused sought two pass overs. Complainant deposed for 5 minutes around 2.30 pm and then resumed around 4.30 pm till around 5.30 pm. On 22 July counsel for accused asked that matter only be taken up at 2 pm on 23 as he has to appear in other matters before other courts.

So On 27th July, the complainant recorded her evidence around 2.30 pm till around 5.pm. The next date was fixed for 17 October when the court had summoned.

Mexico Deports 311 Indians

In a first, Mexico's migration authorities deported 311 Indians, including a woman, from various parts of the country amidst its stepped up efforts to check people illegally crossing its borders following pressure from the US.

According to a press release issued by the National Migration Institute (INM) on Wednesday, the Indian nationals, who did not have a condition of regular stay in the country, were deported from the Toluca City International Airport on a Boeing 747 aircraft to New Delhi.

The people were presented to the immigration authority in the states of Oaxaca, Baja California, Veracruz, Chiapas, Sonora, Mexico City, Durango and Tabasco, it said.

Qatar Pledges to End ‘Kafala’ Employment Laws, Says UN Body

The energy-rich nation of Qatar is pledging to fully eliminate a labor system that ties foreign workers to their employer and requires them to have their company's permission to leave the country.

That's according to the United Nations' International Labor Organization, which said Wednesday that Qatar planned to end the so-called "kafala" system there.

The ILO says workers would be able to freely change employers under draft laws described as being "expected to come into force by January 2020." The ILO also says Doha also is considering a minimum wage.

Big Hikes Likely in Delhi’s New Parking Plan, Rs 1,000 for 10 Hrs Workday

A committee of government and civic officials has come up with a formula that could make parking a car in a popular area such as Connaught Place (CP) for a 10-hour workday cost nearly Rs 1,000 if the recommendations are accepted.

The plan comes at a time when there have been growing calls to dissuade private vehicle use for their contribution to pollution, which entered the ‘very poor’ category on Wednesday. The national capital has 3.3 million four-wheelers and 7.3 million two-wheelers. Nearly 500 new cars are added every day.

35 Foreigners Die in Saudi in Bus Accident

Thirty-five foreigners were killed and four others injured when a bus collided with another heavy vehicle near the Muslim holy city of Medina, Saudi state media said on Thursday.

The accident on Wednesday involved a collision between "a private chartered bus... with a heavy vehicle (loader)" near the western Saudi Arabian city, a spokesman for Medina police said, according to the official Saudi Press Agency.

Those involved were Arab and Asian pilgrims, according to local media, who carried pictures of the bus engulfed in flames and with its windows blown out.

The injured have been transferred to Al-Hamna Hospital, SPA added, and authorities have launched an investigation.

Democrats Walk out of White House Meeting on Syria

Congressional Democrats walked out of a White House meeting on the Syria issue on Wednesday, claiming President Donald Trump insulted Speaker Nancy Pelosi by calling her a "third-rate politician".

The White House had invited the leadership and top committee members of both Democrats and Republicans, and the Congress to brief them about their policy on Syria.

The Democrat-controlled US House of Representatives has passed a resolution rebuking Trump's decision to pull out troops from northern Syria, a move that paved the way for Turkey to launch cross-border military operations against Kurdish forces, who were a key ally of the US in the fight against the ISIS.
