Lawyer ostracised by Kangaroo court in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: In yet another instance of injustice delivered at a Kangaroo court in Odisha, a lawyer has been allegedly ostracised in Nayagarh for fighting a land dispute case between two local villagers in court.

According to sources, Khandapada Bar Association member Hrudananda Behera was allegedly ostracised by the villagers for taking up a land dispute case between Sudarsan Behera and Bibhuti Bhusan Behera of the village and fighting it in court.

According to reports, the Kangaroo court had imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Hrudananda on May 10 for taking the village dispute to court.

“The villagers after conducting a Kangaroo court slapped a fine of Rs 20,000. But when I refused to pay the fine, they ostracised me and my family,” said Hrudananda.

Following the incident, the lawyer lodged a complaint in connection with the incident at Khandapada police limits.

“Though a case has been registered, the cops are yet to take action,” the complainant added.

Senior police officials could not be contacted in connection with the incident.
