Agra: A senior lawyer sustained grievous injuries after being allegedly shot at by two unidentified bike-borne assailants in front of his house in Aligarh’s Janakpuri on Monday evening. According to Rajendra Pal Sharma, landlord of victim Ravindra Pratap Singh, the latter was stepping out of a rickshaw when he was shot at by the assailants at close range.

He said that the bullet hit Singh’s right arm and got stuck on his chest. He added that the victim was immediately rushed to JN Medical College where he is recuperating at present.

Superintendent of police (city) Abhishek said that they have launched an inquiry into the incident. He added that the CCTV footage of the area is being scanned for further information on the attackers.

There have been several such attacks on lawyers in western Uttar Pradesh in the recent times. Last month, a 32-year-old lawyer, Gulzar Ahmad, was shot dead by two bike-borne men in Shamli district. Another lawyer, Sameer Saifi’s (28), body was dug out by police from Bhopa in Muzaffarnagar. Similarly, advocate Mukesh Sharma was shot dead outside his house in Meerut on October 18.
