Leads trashtag challenge in Silchar: Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri

SILCHAR: Amidst enthusiastic alumni members of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Polapool, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri led the trashtag challenge, an awareness-cum-cleanliness drive, at Rangirkhari and New Silchar areas on Sunday morning. Specific emphasis was given in clearing the trash piled up near Barak Market and also adjacent to the State Bank of India New Silchar branch.During the drive, Madduri was seen with broomstick joining hands with the alumni members of JNV and cleaning the garbage.

Also, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with local shop owners at Barak Market and urged them to participate in the process of keeping the city clean. She categorically mentioned that dumping wastes into the drains is not allowed as per the Solid Waste Management Rule and urged the traders to cooperate with the NGOs who are engaged in collecting garbage from door-to-door.

The Deputy Commissioner drew the attention of the people towards waste segregation at source. Assistant Commissioner Navanita Hazarika and other officials accompanied the Deputy Commissioner in the awareness drive. Swachh Bharat Mission urban also participated in the drive. It is pertinent to mention here that district administration has identified 20 vulnerable garbage locations in connection with the cleanliness drive in the town which includes Park Road near Gandhibagh, Hospital Road in front of Veterinary Hospital, Ithkola Point near Ithkola Market, National highway bridge near national highway market etc.The district administration is stressing on the segregation of dry and wet waste so that wet waste can be converted into fertilizer and dry waste which includes plastic will be sent for recycle and reuse. District administration has urged upon the people to join this initiative in order to make the city clean, beautiful and pollution free, stated a press release.
