Light rains expected in parts of Delhi, thunderstorm likely to hit adjoining areas of NCR

New Delhi: The unbearable heat and scorching sun has left people of north India in a serious spot of bother even as the coronavirus lockdown continues to rage through the country at an alarming rate.

The heatwave over north India has lasted for close to a week and now the India Meteorological Department on Thursday announced light rains and thunderstorms later today.

“Light intensity intermittent rain would occur over and adjoining areas of Jind, Loharu, Pilani, Mahendergarh, Hodal and Aurangabad during next two hours. Thunderstorm with light to moderate rain would occur over and adjoining areas of Bawal, Bhiwadi,” the Regional Weather Forecast Centre said in a statement.

Meanwhie, the IMD said that the maximum temperature is likely to recede from the current situation from today in the northern swathes of India.

The weathermen further said that light rain would also occur over few places of West Delhi, Rohtak, Kosli, Hodal, Palwal, Manesar, Rewari, Sohana, Nuh, Bhiwadi, Etah, Moradabad, Amroha later today.

The unprecedented heatwave in north India has borne several casualties and the region is also currently hit by high cases of coronavirus and locust attack.

Churu in Rajasthan recorded the maximum temperature of 50 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the district’s second-highest maximum temperature for May in the past decade

“Under the influence of a western disturbance and an east-west trough and likely occurrence of rain/thunderstorm from May 28-30, maximum temperatures over plains of north India likely to recede from May 28 onwards with substantial reduction of heat wave conditions from May 29,” the IMD further said.
