Lightning kills one in Vav village

Palanpur: A 62-year-old old farmer died after being struck by lightning in Bhakri village of Vav in Banaskantha late Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Manji Joshi, said Vav mamlatdar A K Thakor.

The incident took place when Joshi was working in his farm on Thursday. The area witnessed thunderstorm followed by unseasonal rain accompanied with lightning and hail stones causing wide-spread damage to standing crop.

Meanwhile, a farmer Amrut Chaudhary of Jalana village burnt his millet and pulses crop that was destroyed in the rains. “As the entire crop on 25 bigha land was damaged we could not afford to cut it,” said Chaudhary.
