Liquor mafioso attacks PI in dry Chandrapur

Chandrapur: In yet another instance of attack on the police in the dry district, station house officer of Gondpipri, Santosh Ambike, and his team was attacked by illegal liquor brewers in the forest near Kavadjai village on Monday afternoon.

Ambike suffered severe head injuries in the attack and has been admitted to a private hospital in Chandrapur.

Official sources informed that Gondpipri police received a tip off that a bunch of people were brewing mahua liquor in the forest. Accordingly, a team of four cops, a witness and a police guide led by PSO Ambike raided the spot. On seeing the raiding team, Vishal Porate charged at the police with an axe. Inspector Ambike sustained serious blow of the axe on the head and sustained grievous injuries.

As the cops accompanying Ambike rushed to his rescue, accused Porate, Tapan Vishwas and another person managed to flee from the spot.

The injured PSO was rushed to rural hospital at Gondpipri and later referred to a private hospital in Chandrapur in the evening. Gondpipri police have registered a case against the three assailants and launched a manhunt to nab the culprits.

Earlier, PSI Chhatrapati Chide of Nagbhid police station was mowed down by liquor smugglers in November last year when he tried to intercept the vehicle carrying liquor consignment in the dry district. A woman cop was also attacked by liquor smugglers under Gondpipri police station jurisdiction last year.
