Liquor worth Rs 25 lakh seized in Noida raids

Noida: In three separate raids, the excise department along with the Noida police arrested four people and recovered liquor worth over Rs 25 lakh on Tuesday.

In a late night checking operation, a truck was seized with over 430 cartons of illicit liquor from near Nidhawali border around Jarcha and the driver was arrested.

Officials said that while the driver claims that the truck with a Jharkhand number was being taken to West Bengal, it is suspected that it was being taken to Bihar where alcohol has been banned by the state government. “The liquor cartons were hidden behind cement bags and the driver said that it was being taken to West Bengal. However, we can deduce that it was being taken to Bihar, similar to an earlier truck that we had apprehended earlier this month,” said Rakesh Bahadur Singh, district excise officer.

Meanwhile, four cartons of liquor were seized from Shahberi and Hajipur where these were being illegally sold.
