Gujarat sees 1,101 more COVID cases, Surat stays in lead

Gujarat recorded 1,101 fresh coronavirus cases on Saturday, sending its tally up to 69,986, while 23 more deaths took its toll to 2,629.

The state has recorded 8,553 cases so far this month, averaging a daily count of over 1,000 infections.

Surat, the state's new hotspot, led with 226 cases, Ahmedabad followed with 158 and Vadodara was on the third place with 113.

Israel reports 1,333 new COVID-19 cases; 82,324 in total

Israel's Ministry of Health has reported 1,333 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, bringing the total number to 82,324.

According to the ministry, the death toll reached 593 with 12 new fatalities, while the number of patients in serious condition rose from 369 to 388, out of 807 patients currently hospitalised, Xinhua reported.

The number of recoveries reached 57,071, with 1,758 new ones, while the number of active cases dropped to 24,658.

Earlier in the day, many Israeli shop owners reopened their businesses, after a decision by the Israeli cabinet on Thursday to lift the weekend restriction.

COVID-19 deaths in Chile top 10,000

The Chilean Ministry of Health reported on Saturday that 53 more deaths from COVID-19 were registered in the past 24 hours, bringing the national death toll to 10,011.

According to the ministry's daily report, 2,201 new cases were reported in the same period, taking the total caseload to 371,023, Xinhua reported.

Of the new cases, 1,511 presented symptoms and 604 were asymptomatic.

COVID-19: Brazil surpasses 100,000 deaths; 3 million cases

Brazil has registered over 100,000 deaths and more than 3 million cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the government has reported.

The Ministry of Health on Saturday stated that in the last 24 hours, 905 more deaths and 49,970 new cases were reported, bringing the national death toll to 100,477 and total caseload to 3,012,412, Xinhua reported.

Gurugram health dept busts sex-determination racket in Jhajjar

The Gurugram health department has busted a sex-determination racket operating from Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar, police officials said on Saturday.

One person was arrested in connection with the case.

Virender Yadav, the civil surgeon of Gurugram said: "We have learnt from our sources that one person named Rajesh Kumar was involved in sex-determination activities through a lady doctor of Jhajjar.

"Subsequently, we took the help of a pregnant woman. As per the plan, she approached Rajesh and set the deal of sex-determination at Rs 25,000," Yadav said.

Cylinder blast in south Delhi leaves 6 injured

cylinder blast was reported in a house in JJ Camp in Tigri in south Delhi on Saturday evening. At least six people, including a woman, were injured in the blast. Their condition is said to be out of danger.

"We received a call at around 7 pm and immediately eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control," said Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Service.

"A cooking gas cylinder explosion was allegedly reported in a jhuggi at JJ Camp Tigri. One lady and 5-6 other persons were injured," said DCP South, Atul Thakur.

All the injured persons have been shifted to a hospital.

"The residents of the house rushed out to save themselves as soon as the cylinder caught fire. Later, it exploded, causing injuries to the residents. The house is fully damaged," said a resident of the area.
