3 Maoists killed in gun battle in Jharkhand

Three Maoist guerrillas have been killed in a gun battle with security forces in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district on Thursday, police said.

According to police, the gun battle took place between security forces and Maoists at Kentai jungle situated under Taibo police station of West Singhbhum district.

In the gun battle three Maoists including area commander of banned Maoist group, People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), were killed.

At the interbank forex market, the rupee opened weak at 75.90, but pared most initial losses and finally settled at 75.76 against the US dollar, down 5 paise over its last close.

It had settled at 75.71 against the US dollar on Wednesday.

Fire breaks out a residential building in Delhi's Anand Vihar, seven fire tenders rushed to the spot.

A fire broke out at a residential building in east Delhi's Anand Vihar area on Thursday, officials said.

A call regarding the blaze was received at 12.27 pm, following which eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot, a senior police officer said.

The fire engulfed the second floor and a temporary structure on the rooftop of the building. It was brought under control at 1.25 pm, they added.

There was no report of injury to anyone in the fire.

An elderly woman was killed in her sleep in the early hours on Thursday when her house caved in on her and her daughter sleeping nearby, officials said.

Nakti Devi (80) and her 48-year-old daughter Pitambari Devi were asleep in their house in Ghatol village when the ceiling collapsed on them at around 3 am, Devprayag SDM Sandeep Tiwari said.

Two migrants commit suicide after returning home in UP

Two migrant workers who returned a few days ago to the district committed suicide, police said on Thursday.

People close to the two deceased said that both were facing financial problems.

Suresh (22) committed suicide by hanging from a tree in his Lohara village under Mutondh police station area on Wednesday, SHO Mutondh Ramendra Tiwari said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and investigations are on, the SHO said.

The efforts to rescue three-year-old boy who fell into a borewell in Telangana's Medak district on Wednesday evening proved futile as he was found dead early on Thursday.

Major incident of a vehicle-borne IED blast averted by Pulwama police

A vehicle-borne IED blast was averted as security forces detected a car fitted with explosives in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, police said.

The improvised explosive device (IED) was safely defused.

"A major incident of a vehicle borne #IED blast is averted by the timely input and action by #Pulwama Police, CRPF and Army," the Kashmir zone police wrote on its Twitter handle.

According to sources, a white coloured private car was flagged by security forces at a mobile vehicle check point but the driver sped away.

They said the security forces fired few shots at the car, which they found abandoned some distance away.

During checking, an IED was found fitted in the vehicle, which was later defused, the sources said.
