Live wire electrocutes 20 cows in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh

Sagar: In the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, 20 cows died after they came in contact with a live wire. The incident took place at the Kadta village on Sunday. The cows were out grazing in a forested area when they allegedly stepped on a naked wire.

The wire had been snapped from the power supply poles and was lying on the ground when the cows allegedly stepped on it.

Amit Sanghi, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sagar confirmed that the cows died due to electrocution.

After the incident came to light, Leader of Opposition Gopal said that the government should pay compensation to the owners of the cows. Sanghi has said that they are investigating the incident.

This is not the first incident where animals have died due to the negligence of civic bodies and the administration. Several incidents of stray dogs being electrocuted and birds dying have also come to light from different parts of the country. Even as such instances have surfaced in the past, the civic bodies have not taken any steps to ensure the safety of animals in the country.

Over 80 cows found dead at shelter in Andhra Pradesh

In the month of August, over 80 cows were found dead at a cow shelter in Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh. Managed by the Vijaywada Gosamrakshana Sangham, the shelter can house over 1,300 cows. Initially, it was being suspected that the cows had died due to suffocation however, it was later revealed that they might have died due to indigestion.

The caretaker present at the shelter said that they had ordered fresh fodder from their regular source, a day before the incident. Bharat Ramesh, Joint Director (JD) Krishna District, Animal Husbandry Department said, "These animals are often undernourished, so once they find food, they end up eating large amounts very quickly. This might have resulted in a stomach infection." It was later added that it was not a case of external poison or any communicable disease.

Thakur Raja Singh, BJP MLA from Telangana said, "There is a chance of conspiracy by some external forces. Meticulous plan for months together might be behind this incident. I will appeal to the state government to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the culprits to justice."

BJP Andhra Pradesh MLC PVN Madhav said, "The state government should order a high-level committee probe with the police, forensic and veterinary departments. What the government has done is mere lip service, the shelter has desi cows saved from the hands of anti-social elements, so there might be a bigger hand behind the incident."
