LJP chief Chirag Paswan slams Nitish Kumar over 'ineffective' prohibition law

PATNA: Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) national president Chirag Paswan slammed the chief minister Nitish Kumar for his alleged failure to implement the new prohibition law in the state effectively.

Chirag, two-term MP from Jamui, cited a case in which a ward councillor abused him and his Union minister father Ram Vilas Paswan reportedly in an inebriated condition.

Referring to the case related to Sanjay Yadav, ward councillor of Sheikhpura, who had released a video hurling abuses and issuing threats to Paswans, Chirag said in a letter to Nitish Kumar that media reports claimed that he (Yadav) was in a drunken state in the viral video. Yadav was arrested after the district unit chief of LJP lodged a police complaint against him.

The LJP chief in his letter addressed to the CM, said, "Prohibition is one of your ambitious projects. If liquor is being sold and consumed despite the ban, then it raises questions on claims about prohibition". He also demanded suitable disciplinary action for the people involved in the illegal smuggling of liquor.

On Thursday, the Jamui MP had attacked the CM over irregularities in preparation and distribution of ration cards. Chirag has been critical to Nitish despite being a coalition partner of the NDA in the state. The NDA comprised BJP, JD(U) and LJP.
