Local BJP leaders oppose renomination of CR Chaudhary

JAIPUR: BJP is facing immense opposition against sitting MP and union minister C R Chaudhary, who is seeking re-nomination as the party candidate from Nagaur Lok Sabha seat. BJP state core committee members are divided over the candidature of the sitting MP. Former ministers and local leaders are also openly opposing Chaudhary.

This has resulted in the party reviewing its shortlisted candidates.

Of the five union ministers from the state, only Chaudhary’s renomination has been stuck up. The remaining four union ministers have been re-nominated from their current constituencies. BJP has declared its candidates for 16 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state and has already kicked off its ‘Vijay Sankalp’ rallies for election campaigning.

The opposition for the incumbent Nagaur MP started soon after the polls were announced. His vocal opponents include former cabinet ministers Yunus Khan and Gajendra Singh Khinwsar (both from Nagaur), party’s district rural president Om Prakash Modi and Nagaur municipal chief Sangita Pareek. The common allegation against the union minister is that he does even recognise the local party workers. BJP could win just two of the eight assembly seats from Nagaur district in the 2018 Vidhan Sabha elections and the party leaders and workers hold Chaudhary partially responsible for it.

“The contest was between Jat candidates in all unreserved six assembly segments in the district but BJP lost miserably. Chaudhary’s incompetence has created such a wide room that a five-month-old outfit, the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, has damaged BJP here and even secured one seat for itself," said one of the BJP leaders who has complained against Chaudhary.

The infighting is set to damage the prospects of BJP on the parliamentary seat.

Sudeep Dangawas, a young aspiring politician says, “The infighting vertically divided the party workers. Even if Chaudhary gets the BJP ticket, the supporters of those who oppose him will work against the MP. Had the BJP acted on time, it could have prevented the mess on this politically important seat."
