Lockdown: Three arrested in Thanjavur for misusing travel e-passes

THANJAVUR: In two different incidents on Friday, three people were arrested in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu for misusing e-travel passes.

The accused have been identified as Jerald, 25, of S Puthur village in Thiruvidaimaruthur taluk, Nirmal, 22, and Shankar, 42, of Kumbakonam.

Jerald, who owned a car, had applied and got an e-pass from Nagapattinam district to pick up his relative, who was stranded there due to the lockdown , and drop him at Chennai.

However, while returning from Chennai, he offered to drop a few men at Kumbakonam in his car without getting e-passes for the travellers.

Jerald was caught at Thanjavur district check post on Friday. While police checked the documents, they knew that the travellers from Chennai did not have their passes.

In another incident, Nirmal and Shankar of Kumbakonam, who got e-travel passes to drop two people in Chennai, offered lift to one more person in their car.

Nirmal and Shankar were caught by police officials at Neelathanallur check post in Kumbakonam before crossing Thanjavur border. Based on a complaint lodged by the patrol police, both of them were booked.
