Lok Sabha elections: 'Congress considered itself greater than Lord Ram,' says PM Modi at Chhattisgarh rally

NEW DELHI: Launching another scathing attack against the Congress on Tuesday, PM Modi said, "Congress considers itself bigger than Lord Ram ."

"Congress people used to taunt us; in every election we were asked when will the temple be built? We told them the date, time and even sent them an invitation, but they refused the invitation for the Pran Pratishtha ceremony," said PM Modi at the election rally in Janjgir-Champa, Chhattisgarh.

Further attacking the Congress, the PM accused the opposition of "dividing the country in the name of religion" and that the party was "engaged in appeasement from the very first day after independence". "Appeasement and vote bank politics are in the DNA of Congress. For appeasement, even if Congress has to snatch the rights of Dalits, backward and tribals, it will not take even a second to do so," the PM further added.

Reiterating his jibe about ' dynasty politics ' of Congress, the PM said, "Before 2014, for nearly 60 years, a single family of Congress ran the government either directly or through remote."

Calling Congress' remarks about South India and Goa 'an insult to India and Baba Saheb Ambedkar', the PM said, "First the Congress MP from Karnataka said that South India will be declared a separate country and now the Congress candidate from Goa is saying that the country's constitution does not apply to Goa, the country's constitution was imposed on Goa.

During his address, the PM also talked about Ram Mandir in Ayodhya . He said, "The country had given up hope of building a temple in Ayodhya. BJP has done the work of fulfilling that hope."

PM also talked about things that BJP shall focus on and said that the party "follows the mantra of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'. Our priority is the welfare of the poor, youth, women and farmers."
