Lok Sabha elections: RJD gears up to fight from Chatra and Palamu seats

RANCHI: Just days after JMM and JVM-P requested the Congress to quickly finalise a seat-sharing agreement, the RJD, too, said mahagathbandhan partners must reach a deal soon.

“It is time mahagathbandhan parties announced their candidates. This would allow them to prepare well for the elections,” RJD state president Annapurna Devi said on Wednesday.

She said RJD has begun preparations to contest in Chatra and Palamu Lok Sabha seats, as these constituencies are the traditional strongholds of the party. “Besides Chatra and Palamu, we also had plans to field a candidate in Koderma. But we decided not to fight in Koderma after the former chief minister and JVM-P leader Babulal Marandi expressed his desire to contest from there,” she said.

RJD general secretary Kailash Yadav said, “We have made it amply clear to alliance partners that RJD is eyeing Palamu and Chatra seats.”

“Lalu Sandesh Yatra was taken out in the region last month and we are regularly holding meeting at the panchayat, block and assembly levels since then.” Yadav added.

Yadav said RJD was trying to make issues like social justice, reservation and farmer’s plight the main election plank. He said the party has also decided to hold jan chaupal to spread the RJD supremo Lalu Prasad’s message of social justice.
