Lok Sabha elections: With six MLAs in kitty, BSP ready to show might

JAIPUR: With six MLAs in its kitty, the Rajasthan unit of Bahujan Samaj Party ( BSP ) is planning to show its might in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections .

Local office-bearers are in touch with party supremo Mayawati to finalize the list of candidates as BSP has already declared to contest on all 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

In the assembly polls in December 2018, the party demonstrated its dominance in eastern Rajasthan from where five of its six MLAs come. BSP candidates defeated sitting MLAs from BJP and Congress in this region.

“Apart from the six seats we won, at many seats our candidates finished second in the last assembly polls in Rajasthan. Presently, we are on the job of finalizing the list of 25 candidates to be sent to Mayawati. So far, there has not been any election alliance with any party and we will field candidates on all 25 seats,” said Sitaram Mehgwal, president, Rajasthan unit of BSP.

Meghwal added that the party has shortlisted candidates who have stronghold on the seat from where they would be fielded.

The BSP MLAs include Deep Chand Kheriya, who won the Kisangarh Bas ( Alwar ) seat got 73,799 votes which was 41.12% of the total electorate, Sandeep Yadav from Tijara (Alwar) 59,468 votes which were 32.40%, Joginder Singh Awana from Nadbai (Bharatpur) got 50,186 votes which was 28.17%, Wajib Ali who won the Nagar seat got 62,644 votes which was 36.60%, Rajendra Gudha from Udaipurwati(Jhunjhunu) got 59,362 votes which was 34.15% and Lakhan Meena won Karauli seat and got 61,163 votes which is 35.75%.

“In the assembly polls, we have shown that our candidates had the calibre to ensure defeat of the sitting MLAs from BJP and Congress party. Our party will show the difference as people are fed up with the Narendra Modi led BJP government in the country and Congress has proved to be a weak opposition,” said Meghwal.

Party leaders are also in touch with the candidates from BJP who failed to get ticket in the list of candidates from 16 constituencies released so far.
