Lucknow: 355 fined for free-tripping in trains

LUCKNOW: Northern Railway's ( Lucknow division ) officials penalised 355 unauthorised passengers for travelling in reserved coaches at Charbagh railway station on Saturday.


Officials caught errant passengers in six trains between Friday evening and Saturday. Passengers who had boarded the train on Friday and Saturday from Charbagh railway station and other stations in Lucknow said, that the train ticket examiner (TTE) came to check their tickets when train left the city.



However, many people were not able to produce their tickets on-board, made request to TTE to make their tickets. Northern Railway's (Lucknow division) senior divisional commercial manager Jagtosh Shukla said, "Our teams often stop trains at the outskirts or a remote railway station near Lucknow. On Friday and Saturday, six trains-Howrah Express, Nauchandi Express , Varanasi Intercity Express, Punjab Mail , Begumpura Express and Triveni Expres-were stopped at the outskirts and the tickets of passengers were inspected. The teams found 355 passengers travelling in reserved coaches without tickets and recovered Rs 1.24L in fine."
