LUCKNOW: Police have cracked the murder of a 24-year-old man from Malihabad whose body was found in Kakrabad village , around 19km from his home, on May 13.

Mohammed Rubeel was killed by his former girlfriend's lover, police revealed on Sunday following the arrest of a quack - identified as Vikram Singh - who was also an accomplice in the murder.

SSP Kalanidhi Naithani said investigations suggested that Rubeel was harassing his ex, Soni Raidas, and coaxing her to marry him. "The matter didn't go down well with Soni's current boyfriend and live-in partner, Shyam Kumar, who also practises medicine without a licence like the person we have arrested," the officer said.

Allegedly at the behest of Soni, Shyam confronted Rubeel, trussed him up and slit his throat with a sharp object. They wrapped the body in a blanket and dumped it in a desolate spot in Kakrabad. Rubeel's brother had lodged a murder FIR against unidentified people after the body was found.

"While Shyam killed the victim, Vikram helped the couple dispose of the body," SSP Naithani said, adding that the lovers were on the run.
