Lucknow: Old City traders pitch in with food, essentials for protesters

LUCKNOW: At least 25 traders from Akbari Gate, Pata Nala, Nakkhas and Thakurganj areas have extended a helping hand to anti-CAA protesters at Clock Tower by taking up the responsibility of supply of food and other essential items to them.

The traders took the decision after coming to know that nearly 200 rozedars are protesting at the site.

Nearby mosques have also started offering specific prayers for the withdrawal of amended citizenship law.

On Friday, traders met protesters and assured supply of food and essential items for women.

Mohammad Hassan, a basmati rice dealer near Turiaganj, has taken up the responsibility of supplying of sehri (pre-dawn meal) for rozedaars and morning meal for all women protesters.

“It is my duty to take care of women either in house or on the streets. They are struggling to save the country and I am just trying to take care of them,” he said.

Mohammad Anas, a shopkeeper at Nadan Mahal Road, said: “I will provide carpets for women so that they can sit or sleep on it in this bone-chilling cold. It is not enough and I wish I can help these brave women even more.”

Meanwhile, after Friday prayer, Imams of mosques in old city prayed for the safety of the country and the Constitution.

Maulana Mohammad Yusuf, Imam of a mosque in Nakkhas, said: “I conducted a prayer after Friday namaz wishing for safety of the Constitution and the country from all evil eyes. We prayed for the end of all such laws which violate the Constitution and tend to destroy humanity, culture and secularism of the country.”

Imam of a mosque near Sunni Inter College, Maulana Mohammad Athar , said, “It is a painful period for the country which is witnessing protests. I prayed for the country’s prosperity and safety of women who are struggling for humanity and Constitution.”
