Ludhiana civic body conducts demolition drive for colonies under Zone A

LUDHIANA: Civic officials conducted a demolition drive in various colonies under Zone A on Thursday. The main aim of this drive was to demolish illegal structures in colonies mushrooming without permission.

Since the deadline for regularisation of illegal colonies got over in the end of October, officials have now started taking action against illegal developers.
The demolition was carried out amid resentment shown by people present in the areas.

Among the demolitions carried out were one colony near Sanyas Nagar, two illegal constructions each in Phambra Colony, Sanyas Nagar, Kailash Nagar Road, and Mahavir Homes Part 1, and an illegal shop near Mahavir Colony. Also, one illegal shop was sealed near Phambra Colony, and an illegal construction opposite Waraich property dealer on Kailash Nagar Road.

Zone A assistant town planner Harvinder Honey said, “The policy for regularisation of illegal colonies had ended in October, so now we can take action against those developers who did not apply for it. The drive will continue against such developers in other zones as well.”

He said some developers had applied under the policy, but deposited only single payment, while rest of the instalments were pending, so they would take action against such developers as well, who should either deposit the pending amount, or forfeit the amount deposited by them earlier.
