Ludhiana: Sewing machine inc to promote rainwater harvesting

Ludhiana: Ludhiana Sewing Machine Industries Association (LSMIA) organized a special programme for its members on Monday with the agenda to give the businessmen knowledge about the newly launched schemes of the central government and lending schemes for the industry.

The meeting was presided over by association chairman Jagbeer Singh Sokhi and president Amarjit Singh Swan.

The businessmen also expressed concern on the depleting ground water in Punjab and vowed to work on it.

Addressing the businessmen, president Swan said, “We are adding new members to our association daily. The total number of members at present is 225. Along with welfare of the industry, we are continuously working to develop new models of sewing machines to compete with cheap Chinese products. We have tied up with research and development centres providing lab services on discounted rates to our members. We have also signed memorandum of understanding with CMC hospital for 30% discount on medical services to our members.”

LSMIA vice-president Jatinder Nagpal said, “Our association regularly undertakes initiatives for environment protection like tree plantation and cleanliness drives. In view of the receding water table, we have decided to launch an initiative to promote rainwater harvesting . We are working on the formalities to tie up with government agencies for this initiative.”
