Madhya Pradesh: Satna cops arrest bandit queen Sadhna Patel

BHOPAL: A 21-year-old dreaded 'bandit queen' Sadhna Patel , who was active for a long time in Vindhya region and was carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, was finally arrested by the Satna police.

The outlaw fell into the cops' hand during an anti-dacoit campaign launched by Satna SP Riyaz Iqbal in the ravines of district.

After receiving an information that Sadhna was either residing in NCR region or at Mauranipur in Jhansi , police sent two teams to both the locations, but they later received information that she was seen near the jungle in Jhansi. Police teams cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt during which, they were successful in laying their hands on Sadhna. According to cops, weapons and things of daily use were recovered from her possession.

In August last year, a case was registered against her at Nayagaon police station in Satna and subsequently police declared a reward of Rs 10,000 on her. It is noteworthy that it was after 13 years that a reward was announced for a female dacoit in August last year. In 2005, Satna police had declared a reward of Rs 5,000 on Rani Gaur who was killed in an encounter in 2012.

Sadhna gang emerged after dreaded dacoit Lalit Patel gunned down in an encounter in 2017. The first time Sadhna and her gang were booked was on August 21, 2018 this year for abducting a villager, Chotku Sen, from Nayagaon.

Sadhna who is native of Uttar Pradesh moved to Nayagaon with her aunt after her father's death. Police say her aunt was close to a dreaded dacoit, Chunnilal Patel, who was killed in an encounter in 2015. Sadhna came in touch with dacoits very early on and in year 2015-16, she started working with Naval Dhobi gang, say police. Later after the arrest of Naval and other gang-members, she formed another gang with another dacoit named Deepak. Her gang became more active after the death of Lalit Patel in an encounter in the year 2017.

A total of 4 cases have been registered against her in MP and three cases have been registered against her in UP.
