Madhya Pradesh: Youth swept away along with bike in flooded drain in Betul [VIDEO]

Chicholi: In a tragic incident, a youth from a village in Madhya Pradesh was on Wednesday washed away while trying to cross a turbulent drain in Betul district, which has witnessed torrential rainfall and subsequent floods over the past few days.

The rider was crossing the drain on his bike when he was swept away.

Local villagers rushed to save him but could not succeed due to the sharp edge of the drain.

Twenty-two-year-old Ramdin, a resident of Mandai village, was on his way to Chicholi around 10 am today when he reached the drain near Rojhra village. Due to unprecedented flooding, the edge of the drain was not visible.

Ramdin tried to get the bike out of the drain but was swept away due to the strong current along with the bike. People standing on either side of the drain tried to stop him but he ignored their warnings.

After receiving the information about the incident, the local administration reached the spot and searched for the youth but found only the bike. After hours of searching, the police, with help from the villagers, found his body and fished it out of the drain.

The incident took place in the Chicholi police station area in Betul. The police were informed about the incident, but could not reach the spot on time as they had to find their way around two drains that were flooded in the area.

The incident has created a lot of resentment among the villagers as they claim if the local administration had arrived at the spot on time, the youth could have probably been saved. The police and villagers started searching for the youth only after the water of the drain decreased. The police is investigating the case.
