Madurai: Parking arrangements made ahead of counting

MADURAI: City police have identified parking space for vehicles of government officials, political party agents and candidates for the election vote counting to be held at Madurai Medical College on Thursday.


Only government staff involved in the vote counting will be allowed through Collector Office Road from Thiruvalluvar Statue , police said.

They can park their vehicles on the roadside at collectorate, while vehicles of others including political party agents and candidates will be allowed to reach the counting centre through Law College Road , Dr Thangaraj Salai and Thamukkam Road, said the officials. They have to park their vehicles in Thamukkam Ground and reach counting centre on foot, they added.

The restriction will be in place starting from 6 am on Thursday, until the counting is over and results are declared.

Meanwhile, the Theni district police have taken measures to curb communal issues during the election counting process. District superintendent of police, V Baskaran, has instructed the hoteliers not to accommodate outsiders unnecessarily, as they create problems during the counting process. He has instructed them to collect guest details and submit it to the police officials concerned. The counting is to be held at Koduvilarpatti Kammavar Sangam Engineering College and those involved in election duty have been instructed to reach the centre by 5 am.
