Maharashtra : Health Worker 'Slaps' COVID-19 Woman Patient Undergoing Treatment in Hospital, Probe On

Latur : Woman patient undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at a government hospital in Latur, Maharashtra, was allegedly slapped by a health worker. Woman’s son has made this claim, following which the district administration has ordered an inquiry into the case.

An official said on Monday that a committee has been formed to investigate the matter. The alleged incident came to light after an audio clip surfaced on social media, in which the woman is allegedly telling her son about the August 8 attack on herself.

In the audio clip, a 55-year-old woman is heard telling her son that he slapped her when she told the health worker to open oxygen supplies when she was restless. The woman’s son said that when he called her mother to inquire about her health, she said these things. The official said that the woman, resident of Sakol village of Shirur Anantpal tehsil of Latur district, was admitted to the government hospital on the same day after being found infected with coronavirus on August 7.

Vilasrao Deshmukh, the Dean of Government Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr Mohan Doibale, said on Monday that no such incident has been captured in CCTV cameras, but a four-member inquiry committee has been constituted on the orders of the district administration. Doibale said that the District Magistrate, Shri Srikant has ordered an inquiry. As per the order, we have constituted a four-member committee to investigate the matter. The management of the hospital is handled by the institution of Doibale.

The woman’s son said, “I have told the District Magistrate Shri Srikant about the incident and he has assured to investigate the matter.” I have also sent a complaint via email to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. “The woman’s son said that his mother has been sent to a private hospital in Solapur where her condition is critical.”
