Maharashtra: Bhiwandi civic chief urges people not to assemble at public places on Bakrid

BHIWANDI: The Bhiwandi-Nizampura City Municipal Corporation chief Dr Pankaj Ashiya on Friday urged citizens to celebrate Bakrid at their homes and not assemble in public places, especially mosques, to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Issuing a statement Dr Ashiya has appealed to the citizens to conduct the 'qurbani' rituals in a simple manner during the celebration on August 1.



The Bhiwandi is known as Muslim dominated area and here every years people celebrates Bakrid at large scale. Dr Ashiya last month had joined civic body as chief in Bhiwandi and has controlled Covid cases here. Th number of active patients has come down to 465 out of total 2,933 patients.

He appealed public to buy goats through online or by phone. He urged the people avoid gathering at goat markets.

Dr Ashiya said, "The gathering of people in large numbers is not advisable in light of the Covid-19 pandemic due to which I would like to appealed to the citizens to conduct the ‘qurbani’ ritual in a symbolic manner during the celebrations on August 1."

Meanwhile, neighbouring Kalyan- Dombivli Municipal Corporation revoked the permission given to Bail Bazar locality, where cattle were being sold for the upcoming festival.
