Maharashtra: Chandrapur police officer suspended for brutally beating, 'scalping' a youngster

Chandrapur: A Chandrapur police officer, Anil Alande, has been suspended for brutally beating a youth and scalping him in Ambezari village, Jivti taluka, on April 27. Devidas Kandalwar frequently got drunk and troubled the villagers. They had lodged several complaints with the Pittiguda Police.

On Saturday, he created trouble while in an inebriated state. Alande, the thanedar of Pittiguda police station, went to Kandalwar’s house with three hawaldars to make inquiries. On reaching there, instead of questioning him and hearing what he had to say, Alande dragged him out of the house, thrashed and tonsured Kandalwar. In the process, he also scalped him with a sharp pair of scissors.

When Kandalwar’s wife rushed to his aid, she too was beaten. The police also drove away the villagers who had gathered. As Kandalwar was bleeding severely, the police hurriedly rushed him to the rural hospital in Gadchandur and tried to hush up the matter.

But the villagers who had witnessed the incident lodged a complaint and an inquiry was ordered, following which, the superintendent of police, Dr Maheshwar Reddy, has suspended Alande. After the preliminary inquiry, Alande and the three other policemen were booked under relevant sections of the IPC. Vilas Yamavar, the deputy divisional officer, is conducting a detailed inquiry into the incident.
