Maharashtra election results: Shiv Sena's Vinayak Raut scores big win at Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg

KOLHAPUR: Shiv Sena’s Vinayak Raut was heading for victory at the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg seat where he was in a triangular contest with Maharashtra Swabhimaan Paksh’s Nilesh Rane and Congress’s Navinchandra Bandivadekar.


By 5pm on Thursday, Raut garnered 4,54,285 votes, against Rane’s 2,77,528 and Bandivadekar’s 62,000.

In 2014, Raut had won the seat with a margin of 1.5 lakh votes against Rane, then contested on a Congress ticket.

As per the data by 5pm, Raut got substantial margin in Chiplun, Ratnagiri , Rajapur, Kudal and Sawantwadi assembly constituencies, while he lost by around 10,000 votes in from Kankavali constituency against Rane.

In Chiplun, Raut won 87,630 votes against Rane’s 30,397. The major lead, however, Raut got from Ratnagiri where he polled around 1 lakh votes, while Rane could garner 41,000, and Bandivadekar 14,900.

Raut said, “This is the victory of the confidence that late Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray had shown; this is the victory of all Shiv Sainiks. This is a reflection of that development works that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis have done .”

The Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency has 14,54,525 voters and 8,97,249 of them (61%) cast their franchise.
