Maharashtra Inter-School Swimming Championship in Nagpur from October 14

NAGPUR: Maharashtra Inter-School State Swimming and Sepaktakraw Championships , organized by the directorate of sports and youth welfare , district sports council and district sports office, will get underway from Monday.


Addressing a press conference, DSO Avinash Pund said the swimming competition in the U-14, U-17 and U-19 categories for boys and girls will begin on October 14 at the NIT Swimming Pool.

He said around 1,200 swimmers from Nagpur, Amravati, Aurangabad, Latur, Pune, Mumbai, Nashik, Kolhapur and Kridapeet will vie for the top honours.

The players will be provided the accommodation at the MLA Hostel. The food arrangement for the players and officials has been made at Maharashtra Adhyayan Mandal , North Ambazari road. District collector Ravindra Thakur and joint director of sports Jaiprakash Duble will grace the inaugural function on Monday at 10 am. During the meet, the state team will be selected for the nationals to be held at Delhi from November 12 to 18.

Pund said the sepaktakraw competition in the U-14, U-17 and U-19 groups for the boys and girls will be held on October 15 and 16 at the Divisional Sports Complex, Mankapur.

Around 800 players from nine divisions are expected to participate in the tournament. He said for the first time the tournament will be organised at indoor hall of Divisional Sports Complex, Mankapur. For the boys the accommodation will be provided at Rajnagar whereas the girls will stay at Hislop College.

Deputy director of sports Subhash Rewatkar, NIS swimming coach Yogesh Khobragade and Chetan Garge of swimming association were also present at the press conference.
