Maharashtra records highest number of deaths in a single day

Maharashtra reported a spike of 2,682 new COVID-19 cases and 116 deaths on Friday. With this, the state has recorded a total of 62,228 cases and 2,098 deaths so far.

There are 33,124 active cases in the state. Currently, 5,35,467 people are in home quarantine and 35,967 people are in institutional quarantine.

Patient doubling time for the state is now 15.7 days from 11 days in the last week. Recovery rate in the state is 43.38 per cent and mortality rate in the state: 3.37 per cent, the state health department said.

Out of the total deaths reported today, 46 deaths occurred in the last two days and the rest are from the period May 16 to May 26. Out of the 70 deaths in this period, 16 were recorded in Mumbai, 14 in Jalgaon, 9 in Navi Mumbai, 6 in Dhule, 5 in Malegaon, 3 in Aurangabad, 3 in Bhivandi, 3 in Nashik, 2 in Amravati, 2 in Kolhapur, 2 in Mira-Bhayandar, 2 in Raigad, 2 in Solapur and 1 was recorded in Thane.

Out of the 116 deaths today, 77 were men and 39 women. Among them, 48 of them aged over 60 years, 55 were from the age group 40 to 59 years and 13 were aged less than 40 years. 75 out of 116 patients (65 per cent) had high-risk co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, etc.

Out of 4,33,557 laboratory samples, 62,228 have been tested positive for COVID-19 until today.
