Main accused in Sainik school teacher's murder case held

Aurangabad: The main accused in the Beed Sainik school teacher murder case, after managing to evade arrest for 20 days, was arrested while he was on the verge of flying outside the country.

Sensing the seriousness of the issue and ever-increasing criminal activities, police had already slapped Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the members of the accused gang.

The key accused, who were identified as Anwar Khan Mirza Khan alias Gujar Khan, has 26 offences including extortion, attempt to murder, dacoity and murder registered against him.

After being produced before the local court, the accused has been remanded in five-day police custody ending on October 14. Gujar has turned out to be the eighth accused to be arrested in the case that rocked Beed on September 19.

Beed superintendent of police Harssh Poddar said the accused was on the verge of leaving the country. “Preliminary information suggests that he was planning to flee to Pakistan or middle-east,” he said.

After murdering the 32-year-old teacher, Khan was on the run and different police teams were formed to catch the accused who fled to Hyderabad, followed by Delhi, Ajmer, Mount Abu, Mhaisana, Ahmedabad, Pune and reached Beed on Monday. He was finally rounded up from a petrol pump at Charhata road.

The teacher, who would double-up as social worker after school hours, was brutally murdered in broad daylight by the assailants carrying sharp-edged weapons at a tea stall near Sana Function Hall on Ahmednagar road.

Based on the complaint filed by the deceased’s brother Jawed Ali, Shivaji Nagar police station had registered an offence against the gang led by Anwar Khan Mirza Khan alias Gujar Khan.
