Malappuram: 3 arrested for assaulting teen
MALAPPURAM: Three persons have been arrested by Ponnani police in connection with a moral policing incident that took place near Ponnani town ten days ago.
The arrested have been identified as Shihab (40) Shafeeq (35) and Subair (34), all are hailing from Ponnani.
The incident related to the case occurred on May 8 at Nalamkallu near Ponnani town.
According to the police, a 14-year-old boy , who was seen around midnight near a house where a woman was staying alone, was questioned and assaulted by the accused, who live nearby.
The woman lodged a complaint against the boy, claiming that he was found near her residence under mysterious circumstances, last Monday. However, a case was registered based on the complaint of the boy, who sought treatment at a Ponnani hospital, that he was forcibly taken to the woman’s house by two strangers with an aim to sexually abuse him and later he was spotted by the residents who assaulted him for being present near the house.

However, the teen refused to divulge more details about his ‘attackers’. The details could be revealed only through a detailed investigation, said a senior officer attached to Ponnani police.
The residents were taken into custody on Sunday night. They were booked under sections, 147, 148 and 324 of IPC for rioting and voluntarily causing hurt.
