Man duped of Rs 30 lakh on pretext of sending his son to Canada

YAMUNANAGAR: Yamunanagar police on the court orders registered a case of cheating and forgery against an emigration agent Sandeep Arora of VIP Colony, Ladwa in Kurukshetra district for allegedly duping a family of Sabalpur village in Jagadhri tehsil of Rs 30 lakh on the pretext of settling their 22-year-old son in Canada on work permit.

The case was registered following orders from the Jagadhri court's judicial magistrate first class (JMIC) Rajat Verma.

Randhir Singh, an agriculturist, had filed a case against Sandeep Arora in the district court.

The case was lodged at Chhappar police station of Yamunanagar district .

In his complaint, Randhir claimed, “I am an agriculturist by profession and own 30-32 acres of land and I have two sons. My younger son Devinder Singh (22) is 10+2 pass and he wanted to go to Canada to make his future bright. I talked to my relative Sarawjeet Singh of Jharol Kalan village in Shahabad of Kurukshetra about sending my son to Canada who told about agent Sandeep Arora alias Rajan that he sends people abroad. In June 2019, the accused Sandeep along with Sarawjeet visited me at Sabalpur village where he assured me that he will send my son to Canada on a work permit and will also arrange accommodation for him and demanded a sum of Rs 30 lakh for it. The accused said we will have to pay the amount once we are assured that Devinder has reached Canada and he is safe.”

"I trusted them and handed over the original passport and academic documents of Devinder, and on June 25, 2019, they returned the passport along with tickets to Thailand. On the same day, my son reached Thailand where he, along with some other boys, was received by some persons known to the accused. Later, Devinder along with Vishal of Ladwa in Kurukshetra and others was abducted and threatened on gunpoint to call the families back in India and tell them that they have reached Canada safely. On June 26, 2019, the accused called us at Aman Hotel in Shahabad where they assured us on a call that our son has reached Calgary , Canada safely. We paid Rs 28 lakh to the accused in Shahbad and around Rs 2.8 lakh was paid earlier for foreign exchange purposes for my son. Devinder was forced to say such things on the call and the accused had forged some fake Canada visa and sent the same to us on WhatsApp. When Devinder's Thailand tourist visa was about to expire he was forcibly flown to Chennai, from where he somehow reached Chandigarh,” added Randhir.

On this complaint, a case against Sandeep Arora under Section 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 460 (all persons jointly concerned in lurking house-trespass or breaking by night punishable where death or grievous hurt caused by one of them), 463 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Chhappar police station.
