Greater Noida: A 23-year-old man allegedly hanged himself at his rented accommodation in Sector Beta II on Tuesday morning. The deceased was identified as Vipul Sharma, a native of Bihar. He worked as a supervisor at a utility store in Greater Noida’s Omaxe Mall.

Police said primary investigation has revealed that Vipul was thrashed by one of his colleagues a few days earlier.

The incident came to light on Tuesday around 9am when Vipul’s landlord came to check on him and found him hanging from a ceiling fan.

“The landlord informed us after which a police team was sent to the spot. Prima facie, we found two suicide notes from his diary. While one note was dated October 21, the other note was written on August 25,” said Ravi Kumar, police post in-charge at Beta II police station.

He said in the latest suicide note, Vipul had mentioned about his altercation with a colleague on October 17 and blamed him for spreading a rumour against him. “He wrote that his colleague had allegedly spread a rumour in the office about his romantic relationship with a female colleague,” Kumar said, adding that when Vipul tried to confront his colleague, the latter thrashed him outside the mall.

The deceased wrote in his suicide note that after the incident, he called police and tried to file a complaint but he was only made to hop from one police station to another.

Meanwhile, in the other note from August, Vipul wrote that he was ending his life because his family had arranged his marriage against his will. His family said the wedding took place in May and he was depressed since then. Police said they have received no complaint.
