Man gets double life sentence for murder in Tamil Nadu

Madurai: The Mahila Court in Virudhunagar sentenced Alaguraj, 38,of Thideer Colony in Meenampatti in Sivakasi, to double life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for killing a woman. The victim was killed when she came to protect her husband from getting stabbed.

There was previous enmity between Vellaichamy, 45, of Thideer Colony in Meenampatti in Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district, and Alaguraj.

On Nov 1, 2009, Alaguraj picked up a quarrel with Vellaichamy at a tea shop in their village and tried to stab him with a knife that he had kept concealed. Vellaichamy’s wife Shanmugathai who saw Alaguraj draw the knife came forward to protect her husband and the process Alaguraj stabbed her.

She was admitted to the government hospital but died. Sivakasi East police had registered the case. The trial was conducted at the Srivilliputtur fast track mahila court.
