Man held for murdering his friend in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: Eighteen days after body of an unidentified person was found in fields near Gil byepass of Dehlon, the local police on Friday arrested his friend for the crime.


The accused allegedly murdered him after the deceased threatened to lodge a case of sodomy against him. The accused has been identified as 50-year-old Gain Mohammad from Bihar who lives in Nirmal Nagar area of Ludhiana.



Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Jaskiranjit Singh Teja, said that on October 1, Dehlon police received information about a dead body lying in the fields. He added that since there were no visible injury marks on the body, police initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPc initially.

Police officials said that after keeping body at civil hospital’s mortuary for 72 hours, it was cremated. They added that later postmortem report was received and it suggested that the deceased was strangulated.

Cops said that about ten days later, deceased was identified as Lakhinder Paswan by his son Gautam Paswan of Janta Nagar. Following an indepth probe into the matter, police nabbed Gain Mohammad.

ADCP said that during interrogation, the accused confessed to have committed the crime and revealed that he had strangulated his friend with handkerchief.
