Man held for murdering pilgrim in Haridwar

HARIDWAR: Police on Monday arrested a 45-year-old man on charges of murdering a 60-year old pilgrim who hailed from Uttar Pradesh . Haridwar circle officer Abhay Singh said, “Atar Singh, 60, a resident of Kairana in UP had gone missing on May 4 when he came to Haridwar.

We initially launched a search operation at the city’s various ashrams and other religious places but couldn’t locate him.

We then spotted him at Haridwar railway station through CCTV footage. We then put his mobile phone on surveillance and found that someone was using it in UP Saharanpur district .”

SHO Praveen Singh Koshiyari said that a police team was sent to Saharanpur and it found that he had bought the phone from someone else. He added, “We detained four people who sold the mobile. Finally, we arrested Seth Pal, a resident of Rampur, and he confessed to murdering Atar Singh. Seth Pal is conman and used to loot pilgrims mostly in trains.”
