Man murders wife in Tamil Nadu

VELLORE: A 40-year-old woman died on Wednesday after she was stabbed by her husband following a quarrel over money.

Babu alias Irshad Khan, 47, of Nethaji Nagar in Vaniyambadi was married to Shabana and they had five children, including four daughters. They were residing in a rented accommodation at Jabarabad in Vaniyambadi, a senior police officer said.

Irshad Khan, a cattle grazer in a Middle Eastern country for more than a decade, had returned to his hometown 10 days ago.

The incident took place on Monday after an argument erupted when Shabana refused to give Irshad the money he had demanded. In a fit of rage, Irshad stabbed Shabana with a vegetable-cutting knife and fled the spot.

After information by neighbours, the Vaniyambadi police, who came to the spot, rushed Shabana to a private hospital in Vellore. She was referred to the Government Vellore Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday. However, she died not responding to treatment.

Based on a complaint by their elder daughter Rukshar, 26, Vaniyambadi taluk inspector Mangaiyarkarasi registered a case and arrested Irshad on Tuesday.
