Ludhiana: A youth on a bike died in a road mishap when he lost balance after hitting a pothole and a speeding truck crushed him near Basti Jodhewal chowk late on Friday. The incident occurred when the youth was returning home after attending the birthday party of his friend.
The victim has been identified as Shubham (20), a factory worker of Islamgunj. The police have registered a case against the unidentified driver of the truck, who escaped from the spot.
Kishore Kumar, father of the victim, told police that on Friday Shubham had gone to celebrate the birthday of his friend near Tibba road. Around 11.30pm he called Shubham, who said that he would reach home in 15 minutes. When he did not reach home after 30 minutes, he called him again but could not contact him. Thereafter, the family started searching for him and came to know that he had met with an accident near Basti Jodhewal chowk.
Investigating officer ASI Sawinder Singh said Shubham lost balance when the tyre of his bike got stuck in a pothole. Before he could do anything, the truck crushed him to death. The ASI added that the Daresi police had registered a case under Sections 279 (reckless driving) and 304-A (causing death due to negligance) of the IPC against the driver of the truck, who is yet to be identified.
