Man Prints 'No Gifts, Please Vote For PM Modi' On Son's Wedding Card, Gets Notice From EC

Recently, there have been a lot of cases where people have urged people to vote for Narendra Modi instead of bringing them wedding gifts. Clearly, it’s not just the political parties that do crazy stuff to promote their candidates, sometimes people do crazier things.

But it seems, this time the Election Commission is in no mood to entertain such antics.

As the elections are approaching, EC has sent a notice to a man named Jagdish Joshi from Bageshwar, who urged the guests to not bring gifts but attend the wedding ceremony on April 22 after voting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Jagdish Joshi also printed BJP’s symbol - the lotus - on the wedding card. The EC said that the card is violating the model code of conduct and demanded a clarification from the man within 24 hours, according to the Times Of India

.

The message on the wedding card read, ‘Don’t bring gifts but please vote for Modi ji in the interest of the nation on April 11 before giving your blessings to the bride and the groom.’

According to Bageshwar DM and Chief Electoral Officer, Ranjana Rajguru, the EC has asked Joshi to give clarification within 24 hours. The officials said that if the EC is not satisfied with Joshi’s response, action can be taken against him under the Representation of the People Act, 1951 as well the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

However, Joshi said that he had no idea that he was violating the model code of conduct, “I’m a simple man and I don’t belong to any party. If need be, I will apologise before the commission,” he told the Times Of India.

The Lok Sabha elections will take place on April 11. The elections will be held in seven phases and the results will be declared on May 23.
