Having snubbed a chance to sign Leroy Sane from Schalke three seasons ago for EUR 50 million, Bayern Munich are reportedly looking to rope in the German winger from Manchester City this summer. Having been linked with several talented attackers - including Calum Hudson-Odoi and Nicolas Pepe - in the summer, while preparing for the departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, the German giants seem to have their sights set on Sane.

The 23-year-old winger, who has made a name for himself for the English side since joining them in 2016, has seen himself fall down the pecking order with manager Pep Guardiola preferring Raheem Sterling and Bernado Silva in the starting XI. The situation has seen Sane being left frustrated, only making the bench in important matches, and on rare occasions, even not making it to the matchday squad.

Sane started only 21 of City’s 38 top-flight matches in the title-winning Premier League 2018-19 season, and only four of the 10 matches in Champions League, where City went to the quarter-finals. As per the Daily Record, the young German is unhappy with his status under Guardiola and has hence rejected multiple offers of a contract extension.

“Sané has rejected a series of offers to upgrade and extend a contract that expires in the summer of 2021”, the report suggests and also adds that “the young German is unhappy with his status in Pep Guardiola’s squad and has come into conflict with the Catalan coach on more than one occasion”.

The departures of club legends like Robben and Ribery can be considered as the perfect platform for Sane to establish himself as an outright star at a top European club. The winger's direct approach, dribbling ability and goal threat make him the perfect candidate for the Bavarian club who look to be on a spending spree this summer. Sane's current contract with Manchester City expires in June 2021.

Fellow German international Illkay Gundogan is also reportedly unhappy with his position at the club and had rejected a contract extension. The upcoming season will see him enter his final year at the club and he could also be on his way out of Manchester in search of better prospects.
